Nobody thinks burglary or theft can happen to them, but the alarming statistics prove differently. According to the US Census Bureau, in 20011, of the 3.47 million crimes committed, 3,036,000 or 87% of them were from burglary, larceny/theft, and/or motor vehicle theft. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there were more than two million home burglaries in the United States, over 70 percent of which took place in residential homes. Victims of these burglaries claimed an estimated $4.6 billion in lost property, average dollar loss per burglary being $2,119. Every 15 seconds, a forcible burglary occurs. Experts have even analyzed that homes without a security system are 5 times more likely to be broken into.
